Thousands rally for climate action as NSW is burning

More than 10,000 people, many wearing smoke masks, rallied in Sydney for climate action on December 11. The protest was called by University Students for Climate Justice and The Greens NSW David Shoebridge. For the past few weeks, Australia's largest city has being engulfed in smoke from bush fires burning across the state. The day before the protest, hundreds of fire alarms were set off in buildings due to the smoke. It was hard to see the end of streets because of the fire smoke and even ferries had to stop operating because visibility was too poor. Thousands of people are clearly angry with NSW and federal government inaction, support for new coal and gas mines and cuts to the fire fighting services budget.
